What we’re doing
We’re doing four big things at Open & Closed Project:
- We’ll write standards for the four fields of accessible media – captioning, audio description, subtitling, and dubbing. We will do so based on research and evidence.
- We’ll carry out our own research when the existing research or evidence does not exist or is insufficient.
- Once we’re done writing the standards, we’ll test them for a year in the real world. We’ll make any changes necessary, then publish them.
- Finally, we’ll develop training and certification programs for practitioners.
We’ll have two other activities while all the foregoing are happening:
- We’ll design and test improved fonts for captioning and subtitling (already underway).
- We’ll develop and test file formats for the four fields of accessible media.
