Help
If you can’t find what you’re looking for on our site, even after checking our sitemap or doing a search, we’ve put together some questions and answers that may help.
Are you looking for help with a captioning problem?
Or are you looking for help with some other kind of accessibility problem? Do captions stop working on a TV show, or are you unable to turn on audio description?
Unfortunately, you’ve come to the wrong place. The Open & Closed Project does not solve individual problems. We’re a research organization. We aren’t the people who did the captioning or audio description or whatever else was causing the problem.
You need to contact the broadcaster, distributor, or movie studio, or whoever produced the item that had the problem. We know how hard it can be even to figure out whom to complain to, but we aren’t the right people.
Are you doing research on accessibility?
We may be able to help you, since we have a very large clipping file and are familiar with many researchers. If you’re writing a paper, a report, or a thesis, we likely cannot do custom research for you, but we may be able to point you in the right direction. Contact us and tell us what you’re looking for.
Are you an activist, or do you represent an advocacy group?
If so, we welcome anything you’d like to send us if it actually relates to any of our practice areas. However, if you’re asking for our official support for a cause or a campaign, be aware that our ability and wilingness to provide such support are limited. As a research organization, we have to maintain reasonable impartiality.
Nonetheless, we rely on information from many sources in our quest to understand the requirements for standardization in accessible media. If you or your group knows of any patterns or recurring problems (or things that are done particularly well in your opinion), or if you know of an interesting exception that proves a rule, or if you simply have information you think will be useful for us, then please do contact us. Do not, however, put us on a mailing list without our approval first.
Do you have another question?
We may not be able to give you the answer you’re looking for, but we welcome tips and comments, as long as they relate to the activities of the Project.
