Participate in the Open & Closed Project
The Open & Closed Project is an open project. Apart from confidential meetings and documents that must remain confidential for legal reasons, everything will be done out in the open.
- We won’t have invitation-only phone calls and general meetings.
- We won’t publish uninformative minutes of phone calls and meetings. Where possible, we will publish extensive and substantive notes,if not full transcripts.
- We will disclose funding and conflicts of interest.
- We won’t censor submissions, except for legally unavoidable concerns like defamation and actual copyright.
We expect that the main means of participating in the Project will be via an accessible bulletin-board system (not a mailing list).
We wish to achieve a level of openness unparalleled in standards development. If you think we aren’t being open enough, say so.
Note that our willingness to accept contributions from everyone does not mean we will adopt everyone’s suggestions. Nor does it imply that we will agree – or, for that matter, disagree – with any submission. We promise open participation, not democracy.
Support letters from industry
We’ve received support from many organizations, as you can see from their support letters.
Micropatronage
Starting in November 2006, Open & Closed Project founder Joe Clark received grassroots support from over 210 people to fundraise for the Project.
Support letters from donors
Several dozen of those donors wrote their own letters of support.
